The San Elijo lagoon is one of the largest remaining coastal wetlands in San Diego and one of my favorite places to walk and paint. Vistas over the lagoon lead all the way to the Pacific Ocean and this sunset was too beautiful not to paint. I used a soft palette of colors and a palette knife to add texture to the water reflections and add to the dreamy quality of the scene. Painted in oil on linen canvas. The natural birch wood floater frame complements it perfectly. This painting was awarded first place in the January monthly show at the Off Track Gallery.

  • My artistic journey is all about trying to describe the beauty I see in everyday life with paint, brushstrokes and canvas. Whether its striving to capture the light in a landscape, the beautiful colors in a still life, or the pure delight of a child running on the beach, my hope is to connect with the viewer on an emotional level. I work primarily in oils in a “painterly” loose style. I continue to take workshops and classes to further my skills and to be inspired by other artists. I am grateful every day that I get to do what I love in such a beautiful place like Encinitas.
